JackRabbit Micro Ebike First Impressions Review

JackRabbit has hopped to the front of the line of the micro e-bike category. Micro e-bikes such as Swagtron or Jetson are smaller than your average folding electric bike, with smaller batteries, smaller motors, wheels, and fulfill a limited niche in the world of micro-mobility. The JackRabbit took a different approach in that this micro e-bike looks more similar to a shortened version of a standard 20″ folding electric bike (minus the pedals).

JackRabbit Micro Ebike: Specs

The JackRabbit micro e-bike is being positioned as a simple, fun way to dart around town. With pegs to hold your feet, this micro e-bike could almost be likened to a seated e-scooter with larger wheels. However, it’s the use of larger wheels that makes this electric bike/scooter so fun! The JackRabbit is equipped with a 1.95″ wide front tire and a 2.5″ knobby rear tire for balance and like an e-scooter a mechanical rear caliper brake. It was a good call to go with a 180mm rotor on the rear brake since this is your single source of stopping power.

The JackRabbit is powered by a 300W rear hub motor and a smaller 36V 4.2Ah battery. While riding distance is estimated at 12 miles per charge this is exactly what the e-bike was designed for – hopping around town. The 300W rear hub motor is stated to be capable of 20 m.ph. but that would probably depend on the weight of the rider. While the JackRabbit is light, a slim 24 pounds, a heavier rider may find the motor being pushed especially uphill. Since there is no pedaling option “kick assist”, like a kid’s Strider bike, would be the next best thing.

JackRabbit Micro Ebike: Fold

The JackRabbit isn’t a true folding e-bike but it does have the ability to become more streamlined and thereby more portable whether sliding it in a car or bringing it inside.

To start the minimizing process you can lower the seat and flip up the foot pegs. From there the rest takes place with the handlebars. The JackRabbitt offers two options with the handlebars – either rotate them sideways at the stem or remove the handlebars, turn the front wheel and attach the handlebars to the front fork. The second handlebar option results in the smallest JackRabbit footprint of 7 inches wide which is ideal for storage or travel.

JackRabbit Micro Ebike: Final Thoughts

We love the originality of the JackRabbit micro electric bike and that the owners tried to make zig-zagging around town, college campuses, etc. fun again. The different sized tires give it a “boss” look and feel. While the price is closer to full-sized folding electric bikes we do see this micro e-bike finding its local niche following.
